Photographic Safari – The Wilderness of Southern Bolivia, Uyuni, Salt Lakes, volcanoes.

This photographic safari is run in conjunction with Bruce Percy, renowned landscape photographer.

Starting in San Pedro in northern Chile, we head out into the vast southern deserts of Bolivia in our four wheel drive vehicle to enjoy the starkly beautiful landscapes of this dramatic desert wilderness.

The Salar de Uyuni is one of the natural marvels of South America. This immense salt lake lies amid the stark landscapes of the windswept desert of the southern Altiplano. The intensely clear air combines with deep blue skies and the brilliant white salt to create a fantastic spectacle. The tour heads to Uyuni on the shores of the Salar, from where we travel onwards to the fascinating highland city of La Paz.

Small group size

The trip is limited to 8 people and open to anyone who has a passion for photography. It is designed to allow everyone quality time at some fabulous locations, with accommodation, food and logistics all taken care of.

Community Tourism - Hotel Accommodation

The network of hotels we use in this part of Bolivia are newly built, of a high standard and in keeping with the local environment. They are built of local materials, salt or stone, and are designed to be as ecological as possible in this fragile environment. All rooms have a private bathroom with solar hot water and heating. Each hotel has a restaurant offering buffet style meals with as much local produce as possible. Try llama bolognaise and quinoa soup.

This is one of the poorest parts of Bolivia where there is a problem of depopulation as local Aymara communities really struggle to survive. The hotels have been built in partnership with four local communities, which are actively involved in their construction and on going running, and benefit from the income from tourism. The hotels are on land rented from the communities and will be passed entirely into community hands in 15 years.

Our 4wd vehicles

Our four wheel drive jeeps (Toyota Land Cruisers) are equipped with radios, GPS, satellite phones, fire extinguishers, oxygen and a first aid kit.

Bruce Percy - landscape photographer

The photography sessions will be led by Bruce Percy. Bruce is an internationally-travelled and published photographer who also contributes articles to the Outdoor Photography magazine. He has visited and photographed South America many times and has the knowledge to help you make the most of this photographic safari.
