General Information

Rafting in Peru is whatever you want it to be: rushing down a grade V rapid, long leisurely sections with great wildlife between smaller rapids or a good way to test your white water skills and determination.

You can go for a day or three weeks: Raft the Andes of Peru, check out the white water which drains into the Amazon or take a day out from Cusco and catch some exhilarating rapids on the Urubumba.

The spectacular Apurimac river cuts deep through gorges, surrounded by steep cliffs and sheer granite walls and slowly descends into wide pastoral valleys and tropical rainforest, providing some of the most exciting whitewater in the world. There are many rafting class III+ and IV rapids, although there are a few IV+ and V rapids along the way.

Another popular excursion is a day trips whitewater rafting on the Urubamba River. Included is lunch, transport and all safety equipment – and there are 3 sections of the Urubamba River which are regularly visited:

1. Huambutio to Pisac (Year round). Short and easy rapids. No previous experience necessary.

2. Ollantaytambo to Chilca Class III. Probably the most popular section of whitewater with the water being a bit more challenging with some exciting rapids. Novices can still make this run though.

3. Huaran Class III + June-September. This section of the river is further along the Urubamba towards Machu Picchu and provides some sizeable rapids and fast whitewater. Prior experience of rafting is necessary.

We can arrange many white water trips in Peru – please contact the office for more details.
