Rio Aguarico Rafting

5 Day Trip

Start and end Quito

Large rapids on our rafting adventure holiday on the Rio Aguarcio

Whitewater raft along the gateway to the Amazonas - your adrenaline pumps as we raft over large rapids. Then choose to relax in hot springs, see the lifestyles of Cofan Indians and gaze at the flora and fauna.

Day 1

We drive from the falls to the bridge over the upper Aguarico river. From here we board a motorised dugout canoe and head up stream to a community of Cofán Indians called Sinangüe.

From Quito we drive to the top of the eastern slope of the Andes, the gateway to the Amazonas. From here we get on our bikes and descend the old road to Papallacta, a town famous for its hot springs.

After a quick dip, we keep heading down to Baeza. In Baeza we board the Jeep again and reach our camp near San Rafael falls. This is a great place for bird watching.

Day 2

We drive from the falls to the bridge over the upper Aguarico river. From here we board a motorised dugout canoe and head up stream to a community of Cofán Indians called Sinangüe.

In the afternoon we’ll have the opportunity to meet with local people and learn about their traditions and customs as well as natural history of the area. We spend the night in tents by the Cofán Indian Community.

Day 3

Today we will take a trip deep into the jungle to observe as much fauna and flora as we can. Expect a rough trek led by a local Indian guide. Return to camp.

Day 4

We raft down the high Aguarico, a class III river. In the afternoon we camp on the riverbanks.

Day 5

Today we will be rafting on the Due, a class IV river that flows from the active Reventador volcano. The 3 hours decent will take us through tropical rainforest on white water.

We head back to Quito at the end of the thrilling run.
