Get close to nature on this tour through undiscovered Guyana. Anteaters, tapirs and monkeys surround us as we adventure deep into the forested interior. As we travel by river we may be rewarded with a glimpse of the giant river otter, then on to the magnificent Kaieteur Falls.

Our adventure starts as we fly deep into the jungle to see the stunning Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls.

After returning to Georgetown we then set off again on a short flight into the heart of Guyana, to the Iwokrama Field Station. We spend the afternoon exploring the trails around the field station with a local ranger. At night we head out to spot caiman and other nocturnal wildlife.

An early morning boat ride takes us to Turtle Mountain. Views over the forest canopy are breathtaking. Macaws fly over.

A dawn wildlife walk, then we visit Iwokrama canopy walkway - always keeping our eyes open for jaguars along the way. Next stop is the Amerindian village of Surama, and a guided visit. Morning walk across the savannah, up Surama mountain for breakfast overlooking the Pakaraima mountains. Afternoon jungle exploration trekking to the Burro Burro river to search for giant river otters, tapir, tira, spider monkeys.

Rock View Lodge next for a little luxury, an oasis in the savannah. Superb for birds, wildlife, walking in the Pakaraima mountains, horse riding or just relaxing.

A canoe trip on the Rupununi River takes us to Karanambu. This is the home of Diane McTurk, widely known for her work in rehabilitating orphaned, giant river otters to the wild.

Visit nearby ponds for birdwatching and to view the Victoria Amazonica, the world’s largest water lily. We explore the Rupununi River in search of wild giant river otters, black caiman and Arapaima, then spend an evening at the Crane Pond to see hundreds of Ibis, Anhinga, Heron and Egret roosting.

Light aircraft back to Georgetown, city tour.

Note : Flights to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls are operated on chartered aircraft and all flights have a minimum passenger restriction. Therefore, any booking to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls is subject to a minimum of 5 passengers being available to travel. In most cases we are able to fill flights, especially if scheduled for a weekend. However, in the rare case that we cannot meet the required numbers you will be offered the option of rescheduling the trip to another day during your stay, a full refund for that portion of the trip, or an alternative trip. In many cases we can offer a trip to Kaieteur Falls and Baganara Island Resort as an alternative, which means you see the major falls of Kaieteur, but miss Orinduik.
