Peru and Cusco background
The third largest country in South America, Peru offers travellers an amazing range of activities and places to visit. From beautiful old colonial towns to ancient Inca ruins, the Andean mountains and Amazonian rainforest to impressive coastal nature reserves, Peru has something for everyone.
Cusco is a lively city with a large range of cafés, bars and restaurants and is well connected by road and air to other parts of Peru. The extensive Inca world was once governed from here and there are numerous Inca ruins within easy reach of the city including Machu Picchu. Although tourism is undoubtedly important, Cusco is also a significant market town in the region and there are colourful markets selling local produce all year round.
Learn Spanish ...
Combine relaxed and professional Spanish language lessons, any level, with the Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu.
Peruvian Spanish is very easy to understand, and the opportunity to study in two different locations in the Cusco area, offering excellent value for money, makes it easy to understand why Peru is the favourite South American destination for our language students.
Our school offers Spanish courses in Cusco, the ancient Inca capital and in Urubamba, a small town in the Sacred Valley with excellent access to trekking trails.
The Cusco school is situated in a little courtyard very close to the Plaza de Armas in a building which still retains its colonial charm. The school is relatively small and the teachers are friendly and professional and always available to help students. Lessons are divided into 2 hours of grammar work and 2 hours of conversation each day and classes may be divided into morning and afternoon sessions. If you prefer a quieter location we suggest you study in Urubamba, a small town in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
... and trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
The Inca Trail is deservedly the most famous footpath in South America. It has everything: gorgeous mountain scenery, cloudforest and lush sub-tropical vegetation with numerous species of flowers, a stunning destination (Machu Picchu) and, above all, the Inca remains that give the trail its name. There are Inca paving stones, Inca stairways, an Inca tunnel, and of course the ruins: Runkuracay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca and Huiñay Huayna (Wiñay Wayna. And after 4 days of walking you will find yourself at the sun gate, looking down on Machu Picchu at sunrise – a truly magical and unforgettable moment.
Andean Trails makes a donation to a Porter’s Community Project near Cusco for every person that books the Inca Trail through us. Currently, this money is being used to buy school equipment in the towns and villages where our porters live.
The number of trekkers on the Inca Trail is limited by permits, which are sold on a first come, first served basis. Therefore it is crucial to plan ahead and book several months in advance. Please contact the office for availability.
