The high passes of the Cordillera Blanca

This is a trek amid some of Peru’s most stunning Andes mountain scenery.

We run this trek 4 times per season, with two slightly different itineraries. Choose the tour with the 8 day trek or the alternative, which is a shorter trek followed by the opportunity to climb Pisco (5,752m), a non-technical climb suitable for those with limited snow and ice experience.

See our extensions sections for more information.

Check our Books and Maps section where you will find a range of literature to help you get the most out of your South American adventure.

Acclimatise in Huaraz

We take the bus from Lima to the bustling Peru highland city of Huaraz.

A few days are necessary to acclimatise to being 3,090 metres above sea level.

You can raft, bike of visit the remote 3,000-year-old ruins of Chavin.

Santa Cruz

Our trek features several of the finest views in Peru.

After a gradual ascent of the Santa Cruz valley, we look from the first pass (Punta Union, 4,750 m) across turquoise lakes and nearby glaciers to an array of awesome peaks.

Itinerary 1 - Ulta

We descend to Vaqueria, and itinerary 1 (CB Ulta) takes us onto our highest pass (Punta Yanayaco, 4,900 m).

There are stunning vistas on both sides, including the north face of Huascaran (6,768 m).

We then trek down the mountains to the Ulta valley and continue to our welcome in Huaraz.
