Northern Patagonian Fjords - Sea Kayak Holiday, Pumalin Park, Chile.

4 days/3 nights

Start and end Puerto Varas

  Sea kayak adventures in Chile

This itinerary can be organised at any time for private groups or join one of our group departures.

Kayak across the spectacular scenario of the Hornopiren and Pumalin Parks, the latter the largest private owned park in the world. Paddle through unforgettable places. Hanging forests, enormous waterfalls that fall directly into the sea, gigantic walls of rock disappearing into the water, fumaroles and natural hot springs, endless cliffs, colonists and their histories, hidden lagoons, birds, dolphins, sea lions and incredible hiking trails crossing rivers to arrive at hidden lagoons...you could be our companion on this exciting trip through the Chilean Patagonia.

The only way to access these places is by water. All items required for the trip will be inside the kayaks (food, camping equipment, stove, security equipment, our clothes) offering us freedom of movement and the possibility to vary our program at any given moment.

You can also kayak for 6 days, 11 days or in Paine.

You could extend your trip or start it with a trek around the entire Paine massif on our Paine Circuit or, to reach the really remote areas, our Paine W trek and kayak trip.

Check our group and tailor made options. And you can always contact the office with questions or for advice.

Itinerary

Day 1

At 9 am we meet with the group in Puerto Varas. Puerto Varas is located 1000 km south of Santiago, and 30 minutes driving north of Puerto Montt airport, on the shores of Llanquihue lake, just in front of the massive Osorno Volcano. A detailed explanation of trip logistics will be given to the participants.

We set off driving the Carretera Austral, the only road that goes south through Patagonia. As we travel we will see picturesque fishing villages. We cross by ferry the Reloncavi Fjord, the first Patagonian fiord and continue south among ever more spectacular scenery. We arrive at our camping spot and have lunch followed by a gentel walk to explore the surrounding area. Camp at Comau Fiord (L, D)

Day 2

Technique practice and Llancahue springs.

After breakfast we have a practical class about paddling techniques and rescue systems for sea kayaking. Weather permitting, we set off for the Llancahue hot springs and lunch. In the afternoon we return to our camp. Dinner and planning the next day.

Day 3

Comau Fiord and Pumalin Park.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we start our self-sufficient trip to the Comau Fiord. After 2 hours, we reach the narrow entrance to the Quintupeu fiord, with its sheer rock walls covered by lush vegetation, huge ferns and big cascades that fall into the sea. It is here where the Dresden, a German ship, was hidden during World War I. We are now entering one of the largest privately owned parks of the world.

At the end of the fiord, if the tides allow, we try to paddle up river to enjoy a new landscape. Camp at the end of the fiord.

Day 4

Kayak and return to Perto Varas.

Very early in the morning we start our paddling through a totally different landscape back to our first camp. Lunch with local family family and return to Puerto Varas.

* It may be necessary to add another day in case the weather or any other unexpected situation delays out return to Puerto Varas.
