Trekking in the North of Argentina
The North of Argentina is a remote and fascinating mix of amazing rock formations and colourful cultures. On this fantastic trek through remote and rarely trodden passes, you see up close and experience the traditions of the oldest towns of Argentina, established by the Incas and Kollas.
This region is often named as one of most barren in the world but it bursts with colour – we get to see lakes of many colours, flamencos and condors against a clear blue sky.
Great climate
The trekking season runs from April-October and it hardly ever rains in the Highlands during this time.
It is through this dry and stunning landscape that we take you on a unique trek from the Puna Highlands to the forest of the jungle. We cross an extensive region of enormous mountains and deep valleys, visiting communities which are only accessible by foot and on supported treks like this.
Our route begins at the village of Alfacito. Immediately we are among strangely shaped and coloured rocks. We walk an average of 6-7 hours a day with a couple of longer days, with two high passes and some steady climbs.
Camps are ready on arrival with a dining tent and tables and chairs to enable you to relax after a great day’s trekking.
This is an ideal stand alone trek or as an extension to our
Salt Flats of the Altiplano trip. Please contact the office with questions or for advice.
