Itinerary

Day 1

To get to Trelew we fly 1,200 km/745 miles south from Buenos Aires. Transfer by bus to Puerto Madryn, where you spend the day exploring this historical town. It came to life in 1886 as a railway junction; immigrant workers flooded in from Europe as the railway network expanded. Both Welsh and Italian language and traditions are still very strong here. Hostal or hotel with private bathroom, no meals included.

Day 2

After breakfast, you are driven to Peninsula Valdes, a World Heritage status paradise for wildlife lovers.

You start at the Interpretation Centre which boasts a panoramic view of both gulfs, Nuevo and San Jose. You continue to Puerto Piramide, a village on the south side of the Peninsula. Here you may enjoy a whale watching boat expedition (optional) to observe the magnificent Southern Right Whales that remain in the area from June through to December.

Next is Caleta Valdes, a natural canal with great variety of marine and terrestrial wildlife including a sea lion colony. Then on to the Salinas Chica and Grande, the biggest depressions in South America (some 126 feet below sea level), and to Isla de los Pajaros (Bird Island), aptly named.

We return around 6 pm to Puerto Madryn. Hostal or hotel with private bathroom, breakfast and lunch included.

Day 3

Today you are driven to Punta Tombo, the biggest continental breeding ground of Magellan penguins. There, you can walk along the park trails and see more than 200,000 nesting birds, and more than 600,000 penguins.

In the afternoon you visit Gaiman, a picturesque small town settled by Welsh immigrants in the 1870s. It still maintains much of its original architecture. You may savour a delicious Welsh tea with pastries at one of the traditional teahouses of Gaiman. In the evening you return to Puerto Madryn or to Trelew to fly back to Buenos Aires. Hostal or hotel with private bathroom. Included meals: breakfast.

Day 4

After breakfast we transfer you to the airport. Breakfast included.
