Family Holiday Adventure Peru
Easy/Moderate / 8 days from Cusco, Peru
Take your family on an adventure holiday to Peru, trek the famous Inca Trail, raft rapids and make chocolate in Cusco.
After eight action-filled days, you will have seen the Inca city of Machu Picchu, paddled the Urubamba river, biked in the Sacred Valley and collected family memories that'll last a lifetime.
The trip is flexible enough for the most demanding of teenagers looking for non-stop action, and at the same time sufficiently relaxing for parents to feel they have had a holiday.
Everyone can make their own piece of pottery and Inca chocolate bar too, from the land where chocoate was invented.
This is an active family adventure, customised to each family’s requirements. Children from 8 years old and upwards are welcome on group departures, and from 6 years and upwards on private departures.
Bike on a superb downhill ride through the heart of the Andes. Raft and canoe the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Make a Pachamanca (food cooked underground, slowly), learn to paddle board on Lake Huaypo, visit the colourful Pisac artisan market and explore Cusco. You also visit the Sacsayhuaman Inca ruins.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Peru. You did an excellent job in picking our tour guides and activities. The guides were all well informed and their operation was excellent. They were prepared for us and told exactly what we needed to bring for each activity. Their equipment was all in great shape and had our safety in mind. They were very efficient in set up and break down. The food was wonderful and plentiful.
I once again would go on this trip again.Ann Neu May
Highlights (not necessarily in order): Inka trail. Machu Picchu. Titicaca overnight stay. The Cusco-Puno train. The quality of the clothes and artefacts for sale - much unlike the "Made in China" stuff normally sold at tourist locations. The kids particularly loved the rafting and biking - we adults did too, but enjoyed the cultural parts even more.
Organisation: Very efficient, not a single slip-up.
Guides: Very good. Good-mannered, informative, competent. High focus on safety, hygiene and environment during excursions.
Food: Varying, but mostly good. The food provided by local families was excellent.Gunnar and family, Norway, Jan 2014
Good bits - pretty much everything! We would happily recommend Andean Trails to anyone.
Quick and straightforward immigration, pleasant, friendly efficient airport hotel, great rooms and lovely helpful staff.
Really efficient and attentive guide (Juan Carlos) - really knew his stuff - history, landscape, activities and wildlife.
Great days out (4 guides to 4 of us for river activities; driver and guide for others) - we particularly liked the driver (Walter) who was always where he needed to be and had usually got the awning up and picnic ready.
Casa Andina PC at Sacred Valley was lovely - a great base and very comfortable.
Really enjoyed the day hiking near Ollantaytambo and the guided exploration of the town.
Train ride was spectacular and comfortable. Dawn at Machu Picchu was special.David Whitcombe, UK, July 2013
We had the trip of a lifetime. It was amazing - muy estupendo! The whole thing was seamless. It was so well organised and everyone couldn't do enough to help. THANK YOU for pulling it together.Gillespie Family, Aug 2014
Thanks for organising this we had a great time. I was amazed at how smoothly everything went, having only had experience in developing countries of Africa and Asia backpacking which is usually quite fraught at airports and railways. We were collected and looked after with absolutely no fuss, refreshments and comforts sorted out all the way by courteous staff. The transfers were as smooth as one could expect in the airports.
The trekking guides cooks and wranglers were all great. Food was varied tasty and much better than I'd expected. Tents and mats were fine. Trekking was not too hard - our 13-yr-old son managed it reasonably easily, our daughter rode most of the way and enjoyed it immensely.
Safety standards on the rafting were good, grade 3 was about right for our kids. Food and transfers very good, in all a fun day out.
Hotels were fine, especially the Hacienda Marcabamba which was lovely, with very nice hosts. Clean and central in Cusco.
The Amazon lodge was really nice and the programme you put together kept us busy and entertained. The best bits were jumaring into the tree and kayaking, although it was all good. Food and esp cocktails were fantastic. Definately recommended as a good contrast to the mountains. Flight down was awesome.David Rampersad
