Family Holiday Adventure Peru
Easy/Moderate / 8 days from Cusco, Peru
Take your family on an adventure holiday to Peru, trek the famous Inca Trail, raft rapids and make chocolate in Cusco.
After eight action-filled days, you will have seen the Inca city of Machu Picchu, paddled the Urubamba river, biked in the Sacred Valley and collected family memories that'll last a lifetime.
The trip is flexible enough for the most demanding of teenagers looking for non-stop action, and at the same time sufficiently relaxing for parents to feel they have had a holiday.
Everyone can make their own piece of pottery and Inca chocolate bar too, from the land where chocoate was invented.
This is an active family adventure, customised to each family’s requirements. Children from 8 years old and upwards are welcome on group departures, and from 6 years and upwards on private departures.
Bike on a superb downhill ride through the heart of the Andes. Raft and canoe the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Make a Pachamanca (food cooked underground, slowly), learn to paddle board on Lake Huaypo, visit the colourful Pisac artisan market and explore Cusco. You also visit the Sacsayhuaman Inca ruins.
Trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu - read our blog about its highlights.

Peru is a beautiful country that is well worth visiting. Cusco is a lovely old city that has great history, culture and food. The tour company were great and very well organised.
Exploring the Sacred Valley by bike, horse and boat was amazing. We loved being away from the tourist buses, and getting to see a bit more of the real Peru. We never tired of the snow-capped mountains around us! The crew were fantastic, driving us around, setting everything up and cooking us beautiful meals.
The guides were lovely and very flexible with the itinerary when required.
One of the highlights for Craig was a downhill mountain bike run with Jimmy which he wouldn’t normally take tourists on. One of the great things about the trip was attention to detail, particularly around safety. They also prepared beautiful vegetarian meals for me.
Of course the highlight of any trip to Peru is Machu Picchu. The whole experience was amazing, starting with the train trip from Ollantaytambo. The hike itself was harder than we imagined and not for the unfit! Our teenagers had to push through some pain to keep going but were rewarded with amazing sights and a beautiful clear view of the ruins from the Sungate. Our guide Jaime was very patient and definitely kept up us going.
Everything was so well organised, which meant we could relax and enjoy our holiday instead of having to worry about the arrangements. Both trips were ideal for our family, with a mix of activities and sightseeing.
Thank you once again for arranging everything for us. We will definitely be back for more adventure travel in the future.Jenny Crosbie, Jan 2015, Australia
Highlights (not necessarily in order): Inka trail. Machu Picchu. Titicaca overnight stay. The Cusco-Puno train. The quality of the clothes and artefacts for sale - much unlike the "Made in China" stuff normally sold at tourist locations. The kids particularly loved the rafting and biking - we adults did too, but enjoyed the cultural parts even more.
Organisation: Very efficient, not a single slip-up.
Guides: Very good. Good-mannered, informative, competent. High focus on safety, hygiene and environment during excursions.
Food: Varying, but mostly good. The food provided by local families was excellent.Gunnar and family, Norway, Jan 2014
We arranged a family activity holiday to Peru with Andean Trails and had the holiday of a lifetime. The first week we spent in a lodge in the rainforest seeing lots of tropical animals and birds including an opossum which raided our biscuits. For the second week we flew to Cusco where we went white water rafting, mountain biking, and horse riding, as well as visiting lots of Inca sites including Machu Picchu. For the final part of our trip we took a bus to Lake Titicaca and spent a night on Amantani island. We had a really amazing trip, the guides who looked after us were fantastic, the travel plans all worked without a hitch and the children loved all the activities that had been organised for them.
My favourite bit was the rainforest and birds. The guide that was assigned to us was a genius and found me over 120 birds in the forest including Harpy Eagle.
The local tour operators were good too. All the travel worked like clockwork, not a hitch. Also the staff were exceptional, they were very genuine and worked hard, with a lot of attention to detail.
The kids liked the rafting & canoeing, in large part because the guides, Alan & Juan, were brilliant with them.
The local tour operators changed the Cuzco hotel for the 2nd stay, which we are grateful for, because we got very tired with travel and early starts.
Thanks for your work in arranging this great trip.Richard Stansfield
We had the trip of a lifetime. It was amazing - muy estupendo! The whole thing was seamless. It was so well organised and everyone couldn't do enough to help. THANK YOU for pulling it together.Gillespie Family, Aug 2014
We loved the combination of touring Cusco and its environs and the build up to Macchu Picchu. Of course visiting that site and combining this with the jungle (my favorite part) made it a remarkable trip. J Schneider USA July 2013
