Climb Cotopaxi

Boots Pickaxe
Strenuous climbing / 6 days from Quito, Ecuador

Climb three of Ecuador's finest volcanoes, including Cotopaxi, while learning mountaineering techniques at our glacier school.

Please note: Currently Cotopaxi Volcano is experiencing volcanic activity and we are therefore offering this itinerary with the beautiful Cayambe Volcano (5790m) instead.

Please see: Climb Cayambe, 6 days

This climbing trip, with no previous mountaineering experience required, offers an introduction to the glories of high altitude mountaineering (or for those who wish to extend their high altitude experience) whilst enjoying some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Andes.

Please make sure you are already well acclimatised (5 nights or more) before attempting this 6 day Cotopaxi trip. You should have already spent several days at altitude. At our glacier school, you will be shown the ropes.

Climb Ecuador's volcanoes

You climb three of Ecuador's impressive volcanoes: Pichincha (4,784 metres), Iliniza North (5,126 metres), and Cotopaxi (5,897 metres). The breathtaking views and sense of achievement make all the effort well worthwhile.

Ease of access makes the volcanoes of Ecuador particularly attractive to those with a limited time frame providing an adequate period is allowed for acclimatisation. You will experience all of the earth's ecological zones from subtropical to arctic by climbing in the fabulous Avenue of Volcanoes.

Climbing equipment, i.e. plastic boots, crampons and ice-axe can be hired in Quito. Instruction in its use is given by our mountain guides.

Read Kat's blog about her climb, check our Ecuador climbing page for more peaks, or contact us to talk through options and ideas.
