Lares Valley Trek
Moderate trek / 5 days from Cusco, Peru
The Lares Valley trek is a great Inca Trail alternative, giving an authentic view of Highland life in Peru en route to Machu Picchu.
This trek is for those wanting to experience the incredible beauty and rich culture of the Andes by taking the less-travelled route. Authentic encounters with Quechua communities and spectacular scenery give these treks a wonderful blend of tradition and splendour.
Passing through the rich farming valleys of the Cordillera Urubamba, we traverse high mountain peaks and sub-tropical valleys, stopping along the way to enjoy scenic lakes, natural hot springs, and Inca remains.
The remoteness of the area has allowed its people to preserve traditions of llama and alpaca herding, potato cultivation, and colourful weaving, much of which dates back to pre-Inca times.
Visit Machu Picchu ruins
This fascinating trek offer a first-hand look at the life of the Andean farmer and a journey into a region of outstanding natural beauty.
A one day extension to Machu Picchu is added to this trek so you can explore the magic of the Lost City of the Incas.

The trek itself was absolutely fabulous thank you so much for arranging it for us. My friends and I were thrilled with the service we got - multi course meals all prepared for us and tents set up before we had arrived at the camping locations. Our guide was friendly as were the cooks and the route was stunning.
Thank you very much.Rosie Sells
The trek was an absolute success! We reached new heights - both physically and personally - and had an amazing time. We have both done a fair amount of recommending Andean Trails and the Lares Trek. The trek was truly a one of a kind experience that not only will we excitedly discuss, but also rank as one of the best travel experiences we´ve had thus far. A huge shout-out to our guide Smitty, and the fantastic crew for the amazing meals, setup, and help!
Thanks so much for all of your help with getting the trek booked. We truly appreciate it and had the best time, and it wouldn´t have been possible without you! Thanks again!James Dixon
The trip was very well organized - no hitches at all. The Peruvian contacts were very efficient and very accommodating. The walk (other than the weather) was very enjoyable and all the people involved really went out of their way to make it a good experience. Thanks for your help and I would recommend you.Marcia Behrenbruch
Just a quick note to tell you that my 4 days of trekking with your company were by far the best of my month long trip. Also, everyone on the staff was so kind, and Juan and Yamil were exceptional. Juan carried the gear I needed for the day hikes, and because we arrived back in Cusco at 5 and I was leaving the next morning at 4:30, Yamil ferried my laundry to someone who would do it for me and delivered it to my hotel.
Thanks again for a great trip with lovely and experienced people.Ruth Hargrove
We LOVED the trek. It was hard, beautiful, cultural and well organized. Our whole family enjoyed the 3 other trekkers in our group and the staff was great including cook, guide, horsemen and other help. Yamil, our English speaking Peruvian guide did a very good job and our cook made a birthday cake for a Scottish woman in our party!
Our guide showed us the school that is supported by the income from the treks. They apparently provide a yearly salary for one of the two teachers at the school. This seems fantastic. We camped in two villages and it didn't feel too intrusive since our group was small and no other groups were seen trekking. Karen Lindsey
