We really enjoyed the experience.
We researched the routes and boats and felt that what we chose suited us best- the flavour of several islands, lots of activities each day, and a small boat with excellent facilities. Andean Trails was noted as an agent through whom we could book the Galaxy, and again, with some research, trusted that Andean Trails would be a great choice (and it was!) In particular, the call with you, Tom, reassured us in our choice and made us feel comfortable booking through Andean Trails.

Visiting the Marble Caves has been on my bucket list for some time. With our planned trip to SA ending in Santiago this was the chance I had been waiting for. I started researching how to get to the Marble Caves and stumbled across Andeans Trails and Terra Luna by chance. The more research I did the more this seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. (a shuttle to and from the airport, lodging, food, and other outdoor activities besides the Cave Tour) Plus it had good reviews and seemed reputable. I contacted Andean Trails and Kathy (you) responded immediately, and our conversation continued until we had everything booked and in place. I was extremely pleased at how promptly every question or concern I had was addressed! I was a little nervous about flying to such a remote area where I did not know the language very well. A few days before we arrived our guide Andres sent me a msg that had such a welcoming tone all my fears were erased.
From the minute we landed in Balmaceda until we returned home the trip was magical!!! Part of it was like taking me back to my childhood. A long gravel road I walked often to my grandma’s log cabin in the woods with a wood stove. And so much of the vegetation was the same! I found out Puerto Gaudal is close to the 45th parallel S, and I live on the 45th parallel N! I was like deja vu! (Except for the Andes, GC Lake and Northern Icefield.)
I knew there were other outdoor activities available but I didn’t do any serious research on them, my mind was on getting to the Caves. That lead to a wow moment around every corner! My love of glaciers was rewarded in the trip to Leones Glacier with lunch on the moraine. The horseback ride on Erradica taught me new glacial terms! The time spent in Patagonia NP was very moving, esp Doug Tompkins grave. The hike to the Confluence and the waterfall was awesome. The fossil bed hike was challenging but Andres took his time with us and was so encouraging. Well worth the effort to get there!
To sum this up: Andean Trails very nicely made my dream to see the Marble Caves come true. They were easy to work with, replied promptly and did everything they could to make sure the trip went smoothly.
Terra Luna – A hidden gem in the heart of Patagonia! the lodging – wonderful, the scenery – breathtaking, the activities – invigorating , food – delicious, staff – top notch (every single one), Phillipe – so welcoming, Andres – (guide) top notch!
The only critique would be Terra Luna needs to clean the hot tub. It is a beautiful tub, beautiful view and the water was hot but the boards were a little slimy. Overall the place was awesome and I give them 99.9 rating.

The highlight was the El Chalten Full-Day Trek with family to Laguna de los Tres. It was a very strenuous day trek, but the beautiful views up to Fritz Roy and the iconic shot of the two lagunas at the top made the trek totally worth it.
We wanted to visit Patagonia and found Andean Trails with options from easy to difficult, covering both Argentina and Chile. The family had a blast with both the day hikes.
Overall organization was impressive, and we really liked the Perito Glacier kayaking. The vegetarian lunch options were excellent, with plenty of protein.

J. Hill, U.K. Cloud forest and Amazon trip, Ecuador. November, 2025.
I would like to thank Tom for organising my trip to Santa Lucia and Sinchi Wayra! It was incredible – he made the process really easy, and having all the information provided in sheets ready to print out and take with me was really useful.
As I had a short period of time to do both places and had seen Santa Lucia trips advertised on Andean Trails’ website, I felt that you were best placed to help me manage the organisation and scheduling. If I were planning another trip to South America, your website is the first place I would look. I also found the blogs really interesting to read before my departure and gave me useful information (and ideas for future holidays!).
The highlight of my holiday was the cock-of-the-rock walk at Santa Lucia at 4am. Seeing the forest and the birds through the sunrise and then eating breakfast by a waterfall was a great way to start the day! I also really enjoyed the day at the community centre at Sinchi Wayra learning about the community and their traditions.
Accommodation/ food/ guides/ overall organisation were all extremely good for both locations.
The trip was well organised – my guide made sure I had time to see and do everything that I wanted to do. We had lots of great discussions about the rainforest, the birds and insects and also the history of Santa Lucia. No question went unanswered and I had a lot of them! The food was excellent and good portions – I was very well looked after.
The cabin at Sinchi Wayra was extremely comfortable, despite being quite open to the wildlife. The mosquito net sorted any night time visitors out though and it great listening to the sounds of the forest and seeing the occasional glow worm going past! Our guide worked hard on the excursions to find us lots of interesting things to see like monkeys, parrots and caymans and also helped us get great footage. The lodge picked me up straight after the flight and dropped me off well in time for my flight back to Quito with no issues. The food here was some of the best I had in Ecuador.
At both lodges, time was taken to explain their history, the various environmental and social issues that impact both environments and how tourism is essential to help keep pressures of deforestation, and particularly in the Amazon, oil extraction, at bay. I feel my visit did therefore help the lodges and communities, as it helps them push back against these pressures.
Alastair and John, UK. Tailormade Patagonia inc. Self-guided Paine Circuit. November, 2025
Andean Trails has many pluses. You get a bespoke trip: “bespoke” as in getting exactly what you want (not as in expensive) and you are not part of a group with inevitable compromises to the itinerary.
Kathy is very knowledgeable about the region from personal experience. The side trips beyond Chalten and Paine, suggested by Kathy, made for a fuller experience of both countries, their culture and history.
We had to make changes during the trip and were able to complete them using WhatsApp, Kathy’s availability never seemed an issue. The local agents sent us reminders for the next day in good English and were all punctual. The WhatsApp reminders were very helpful/reassuring.
The highlight of the trip was just the beauty of the scenery overall.
Accommodation all very comfortable/ appropriate. The hotels in Buenos and Santiago were very comfortable and with good restaurants nearby. Canelos and Senderos good walking hotels, and food in Canelos notably good. Bunkrooms in Paine were roomy and facilities generally better than a lot of what we’ve experienced in Alps/Pyrenees. Food in Puerto Natales was particularly good with some great fish and seafood, at great prices,
We maybe benefited local people by using hotels, laundries, restaurants etc. Obviously the tourist industry in both Argentina and Chile employs lots of local people. We tipped services hopefully at a reasonable level.
What I would do differently is I probably would not have bought as much data on my eSIM WiFi is pretty ubiquitous even in the park.
There are inevitably a lot of transfers and bus connections. Might have tried to finesse some of that.
Mohamed and Mira, UK. Volcanoes Expedition, Ecuador. November 2025
We worked with Andean Trails to plan a trip to Ecuador that combined climbing a number of its volcanoes and touring some of its main cities over two weeks.
Andean Trails were really innovative, they recommended an itinerary that met both criteria, including acclimatisation hikes, four star hotels, and visits to thermal spas and once we agreed the itinerary, they offered us a competitive price and linked us up with knowledgeable and experienced local guides and partners.
I would highly recommend them. They met all our needs, they were highly professional and responsive and they have local experience and know-how. They work with reputable partners and can arrange complex trips that suit you and your expectations for your trip to Ecuador.
5-star rating and 100% would work with again.
Cara Carter, El Monte Lodge, Ecuador, August 2025
Tom at Andean Trails offered great advice for our trip to Ecuador and would most definitely use again and recommend. We had such a variety of locations near Quito to choose from Andean Trails, after they took the time to understand our priorities and make recommendations.
First, we had a couple of days at a really lovely hotel in Quito that was perfect for our needs and sightseeing around the old town before being collected for our stay in the Cloud Forest. All arrangements made for us were seamless and hassle free, leaving us to get on with making the most of our time.
The highlight was our stay at El Monte in Mindo which was just perfect – fab location with arrival by small cable car, sleeping to the sound of the river, 1st class local guides, such tasty and well made food, all perfect and so glad we stayed on for the extra day.
The host at El Monte, Tom, was so welcoming and showed us the camera trap footage for the wildlife we didn’t get a glimpse of and was great fun tracking monkeys with him and his wife around the lodge. We had freedom to do our own walks, join a small group, explore with the guide or just chill. Fascinated the humming birds, Cock-of-the-Rock and variety of toucans (even if not a birder) and loved the ziplining. Wouldn’t have changed a thing about our stay and would happily return!!
We returned to another hotel in Quito to get another perspective, which again was really worth it to get the most out of our trip. We did so much but was so sad that it all went so quickly.

Alan and Clare, UK. Lodge-to-lodge trek Ecuador. August, 2025
We had a great time. I saw the magnificent Condor which I hoped for as a keen birder (among 50 other never before seen birds).
We tried to benefit local people by buying things.
We wanted to go to the Andes and when we searched options, we thought Andean Trails had the best options and seemed to specialise in the Andes.
Pam and Paul, Australia, Paine W self-guided, Chile. March 2025
As an older non Spanish speaking couple hailing from Australia, booking our 5 day solo Torres del Paine W trek with Andean Trails was the perfect start to realise our adventure.
Having all our accommodation, transfers, inclusive meals and comprehensive pack list sorted to suit our itinerary by such knowledgeable, professional and amenable travel experts meant we could focus our efforts entirely on the trek.
We were blessed by great weather – a considerable bonus given we took a few hours longer to complete each daily walk as some of the trails were challenging too but the stunning views that unfolded along the trails provided impetus for us to persevere. We also found our walking poles were essential for ascents and descents on steeper slopes. Our last night was a fixed tent camping spot – comfortable enough and allowed for unreal Milky Way stargazing in the wee small hours.
Our 3 nights in Refugios were good – took a bit of getting used to sharing space with 4 other bunk bed mates and it helped being organised the night before when setting off for a pre-dawn start with head torches.
The food provided was fine and portions adequate to needs and the Chilean staff were all friendly and helpful.
In summary whilst we have physically come down from the mountain tops we are still on an emotional high! Our entire Patagonian trip was nourishment for the heart and soul and a truly awesome experience to be immersed in such an incredible, diverse and unique natural environment – the sound of roaring rivers, the thunder of shifting glaciers , the winds through the forest and high peaks further complimented our sensory experience. There are many options for trekkers to explore in terms of walks and destinations within this mighty National Park to suit fitness and/or time constraints.
Our advice would be take your time considering what you feel comfortable with challenging yourself (I was certainly apprehensive about my ability to complete the full 70km circuit and we ended up doing less kms towards the end which felt just fine and meant we we could have more time sitting on a rock admiring Grey glacier from a greater distance) and then make it happen, one beautiful step at a time – you might even glimpse a Puma along the way!

C. Cooper, UK. Photography Tour, Chile and Bolivia, April 2025
We had a truly amazing experience. Chile and Bolivia are stunning.
Our guides were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. All of the guides said we had a very well planned itinerary that gave us the best chance of acclimatising to the altitude properly (the hike in Atacama and the trek to the Hot Springs before departing for Bolivia).
Our driver in Bolivia was fantastic. He was professional and very competent. Despite the condition of the roads and the amount of time we spent travelling we always felt completely safe.
The hotels in Bolivia were basic but charming. Some of the facilities were a bit more rustic than we had expected (no heating and/ or no hot water in the mornings) but we managed. Food was simple but good.
Overall, it was a very special trip and has given us a lot of amazing memories. If someone asks what the best part was, I couldn’t decide because there were so many best bits….Moon Valley, the flooded Solar de Uyuni, The Milky Way, Sunsets & Sunrises, the Flamingos at Laguna Colorado.
It was exhausting and unforgettable – just how we like it 🙂
I will eventually get to reviewing my photos and will send you some.
Many thanks for your help in organising everything.

W. Kyle, USA. 4-day Inca Trail trek, Cusco and Sacred Valley, April 2025
Food was awesome, at our Cusco hotel and on the Inca trail.
There were so many highlights: the way our guide explained in great detail about all the birds, plants (especially all the different orchids), in addition to his knowledge on all the ancient historical sites was quite amazing. It made the trail more like an adventure, instead of a hike.
All of the people at the hotel in Cusco were very helpful, especially Kevin, who brought oxygen to my room Saturday morning when I was still having issues adjusting to the high altitude in Cusco. The other tour guides, Eddie on the walking tour of Cusco, and Mateo, who did the Sacred Valley tour were good.
Andean Trails was recommended by Responsible Travel, my first contact for this adventure.

D. Joselow and family, USA. Land-based Galapagos holiday, April 2025
The accommodations were great – clean, comfortable, and well located. The food was good, especially the farm lunches. We also really enjoyed the meals on the boats.
The overall organization of the trip was terrific. We were a big group and everything ran as expected. We could not have felt better taken care of. Everyone was very kind and very gracious.
Honestly, the entire trip was exceptional. We definitely loved the wild life, on land and on/in the water. Learning the history was also great. The Interpretation Center on St Cristóbal was small but very informative. We also loved our boat trips – Kicker Rock, Española,Tuneles.
Guide Maritza is a treasure. She has great energy and a clear passion for the place. She was patient and good humored, exceptionally hard working and incredibly knowledgeable. We were told she was a last minute substitute. We sure got lucky. We didn’t know we were going to have our own private guide for the entire time. That actually made the trip and I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Galapagos.
The boat crews on St Cristóbal and Isabela were kind and funny and thoughtful. We had a blast spotting dolphins and whales and other creatures. The crew members were always looking out for us and doing everything they could to make us comfortable.
Everything felt very local – the farms and ceviche evening and brewery were all about our hosts. But the boats and buses and hotels and restaurants felt the same. The kids rented surf boards and had a great time talking surf with the owner. We found warmth and kindness everywhere so hopefully we did no harm and showed appropriate respect and appreciation.
Honestly we can’t imagine a better trip. We would absolutely recommend the itinerary – and Andean Trails – to anyone.
We chose Andean Trails because someone we know used the organization to tour the Galapagos and had a great trip. We wanted to do a land-based trip and couldn’t find another organizer who seemed to have the expertise and offered various land options. This was a pretty unusual trip for us, our first time out of the U.S as a family. We didn’t closely examine other Andean Trails offerings but would certainly recommend them to others.
I have to close by thanking you for all your help. We had lots of different questions and lots of different needs in throughout the planning. You were very patient on all of it. That made us very confident that the trip itself was going to be as wonderful as you were. It was. Thanks so, so much. This was a bucket list adventure. I am not sure how any future trip can compare.

Everything exceptional! Food on all trips was varied and plentiful. Guides were superb!
The highlight was the Inca Trail & Machu Picchu, which was an amazing experience!
We wouldn’t change anything. We came away understanding local cultures much more, which we loved.
We wanted to visit Machu Pichu as been long-time dream! Bolivia added as close by to Peru. Chose Andean Trails due to their expertise in this area of booking and they did not disappoint.
