Travel insurance for your South America trip
Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of booking with Andean Trails. Your policy must cover your destinations, the full duration of your trip and the activities included in your itinerary.
From trekking in the Andes to exploring the Amazon or taking an expedition cruise, check that your cover matches the holiday you have planned.
Before you choose a policy
Use your itinerary to check the following with your insurer:
- Destinations and dates: Cover for every country you will visit and the full period you will be away, including any independently arranged travel.
- Activities: Cover for your planned activities, such as trekking, cycling, horse riding, kayaking or expedition cruising.
- Altitude: Cover for the maximum altitude reached during any high-altitude trek.
- Medical treatment and getting home: Cover for emergency medical expenses and repatriation.
- Rescue and evacuation: Appropriate cover for remote areas, including helicopter evacuation where relevant and available.
- Cancellation and cutting your trip short: Check the covered reasons and whether the limits are sufficient for your holiday cost.
- Baggage and equipment: Check limits for your belongings, valuables and any specialist equipment.
Tell your insurer about pre-existing medical conditions and check any age restrictions, exclusions and excesses before buying.
Check your cover for high-altitude trekking
If your holiday includes high-altitude trekking, your policy must specifically cover the maximum altitude reached on your itinerary.
Check how your insurer defines trekking and mountaineering, as well as any restrictions relating to guides, routes or equipment. Share your itinerary with them and ask for written confirmation if you are unsure whether an activity is covered.
Finding an insurance provider
World Nomads is one of many providers you can explore when looking for travel insurance.
Eligibility, benefits and exclusions vary between policies and countries of residence. Check the current policy wording and confirm with the insurer that the cover suits your trip.
