Top 5 things to do in Ushuaia

Our Argentina representative, Alexandra Smirnova, shares her favourite activities in this stunning, remote city.

Tierra del Fuego, or literally ‘Land of Fire’ is in a very remote part of Argentina. In spite of this, it is an accessible and welcoming land with friendly people, delicious food and a variety of activities to do.

Here we leave 5 Top Things to do if you wish to discover Ushuaia:

1. Classic Visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park

A must-do.

Views of the Beagle Channel surrounded by mountains, the spectacular Ensenada Bay, Lapataia Bay, Lagoon Verde and Lake Roca, whose colour varies according to the weather.

2. Navigation to Estancia Harberton & Penguin Island

The highlight is the visit to ‘Estancia Harberton’ giving you the chance to explore  this historical settlement, hear its stories and enjoy its remoteness.

You can observe Black Eyebrow Albatross, as well as Scuas and different kind of gulls, without forgetting the funny Steamer Ducks or Alakush.

3. Lakes Off-Road 4×4 Trip

A fun and intense way of spending a day, mixing  little bit of adventure with adrenaline.

Expert 4×4 drivers take you for a real off-road ride that finishes with an unforgettable ‘asado’ (barbecue) at a refuge in the Fuegian forest. Something for everyone.

4. Trekking and Canoeing

Explore Tierra del Fuego National Park: Walk in the mountains and forests that surround Ushuaia, then canoe on rivers and in the sea.

5. 30 min flight around Ushuaia

This is a ‘wow’ experience.

A fly-by is the best way to see, from a new and different perspective, Ushuaia’s incredible landscapes.

The over flight offers the best view of the Beagle Channel. You’ll reach the Chilean border, from where you can see Yendegaia Bay and its glacier, along with the Darwin Mountains, the highest peaks of Tierra Del Fuego Island. Take a good camera with you, for the views are incredible.

BONUS! Restaurant Chez Manu!

Not an excursion, but a great spot for lunch or dinner and a high-end gourmet experience, located on the side of a mountain overlooking Ushuaia.

If you are headed to Glaciar Martial, don’t miss this place, just 2km from town.
