White water rafting in Ecuador

South America is full of fantastic white water rafting – a perfect extension to your adventure holiday, from those looking for massive rapids to paddling fun for all the family.

We offer rafting trips in Peru, including the mighty Apurimac, as well as in Chile and arguably the best rafting river in South America, the Futaleufu.

Ecuador has its own gems, as Andean Trails’ passengers Caroline Blagg and John Toovey discovered on their recent tour, rafting Rio Toachi and Blanco.

Rio Toachi

The Río Toachi is a fantastic introduction to the rivers of Ecuador.

Flowing off the coastal side of the Andes it has some of the longest navigable sections of white-water in the country.

Caroline said: “The whole trip went like clockwork and well organised. Our favourite part was the white water rafting, such fantastic fun.”

Our local rep Emma went along on the trip. She said: “We had a whale of a time!

“We drove to Santo Domingo and began rafting from there and along the Rio Toachi, through the canyon which is very pretty and includes a grade four rapid ‘El Sapo’,.

“The rest of the rapids were grade 3. You end up on the Rio Blanco as the Blanco and Toachi converge along the way.

“The rafting was SOOO exciting and exhilarating on the first day that I think we should move it to the end of trips – so we’re ending on a high.”

Longer trips

Ecuador has some more great trips, including the six day Rio Upano to the Namangosa Gorge, taking on grade IV and IV+ rapids.
