Ecuador’s varied geography and landscapes make it the ideal playground for multi-activity holidays.
In the mountains of Ecuador there are many options for activities to suit all ages, interest and abilities. Try a horse riding journey where you gallop across the high plains, take a one day walk in Cotopaxi national park, trek from lodge to lodge on a multi-day walking tour, add a day or more of mountain biking in the foothills or down the slopes of volcanoes such as Cotopaxi. If you prefer high altitude mountaineering then there are several options for mountaineering with skills courses on Cayambe to guided volcano summit attempts on peaks such as Illinizas, Cotopaxi, or Chimborazo.
In the cloud forest area of Mindo, activity holiday capital of Ecuador, harness on for zip-lining, take a more sedate chair lift or cable car across the canopy, jump into refreshing waterfalls, go biking, tubing, or white water rafting. Birding is also fabulous across the country, particularly in the cloud forest.
On the Pacific coast of Ecuador there are options for active days too, such as surfing, kayaking, boat trips, snorkelling with marine wildlife, birding and walks. In Galapagos a variety of activities await, biking, kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, and trekking too, as well as amazing wildlife watching. We offer a small group multi-activity Galapagos tour, one of our most popular trips.
Adrenaline is sure to pump as you navigate the volcanoes, rivers, forests and valleys of Ecuador. This small nation is perfect for active families and sporty types looking for multi-activity travel. Ask for a bespoke programme tailored to fit your interests, the amount and level of activity and length of time available to you – we can pack in as much or as little as you with to create your perfect multi-activity holiday.
The group was really well organized and the activities were well thought out. Equipment was is good condition and the accommodation was super, clean and welcoming.
The guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about the Galapagos. Good mix of activities. My holiday with Andean Trails was without a doubt the best trip I’ve been on. The wildlife was amazing.

How do I successfully achieve high altitude acclimatisation? This is the question that anyone travelling to the high altitude Andean areas of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina or Colombia should be asking themselves. Successful acclimatisation will make a huge difference to your visit. It will mean you have a much safer and more enjoyable experience, whether trekking or climbing high Andean peaks. Over the past 25 years I have been up many 5,000 m plus peaks and trekked many fabulous routes in the Andes. I have suffered altitude headaches, lethargy, loss of appetite and certainly lack of breath when trying …
